Account information. When you create an account we collect what your sign-in method provides: name, email address and profile photo (Google), name and email (Apple — if you choose “Hide My Email”, we only ever see the private relay address Apple creates for you), or the email/phone number you register with directly.
Profile & preferences. Your home city (used to calculate panchang, sunrise and muhurat timings), the deities you follow, language and recitation preferences, and — optionally — date of birth and gender if you choose to add them.
Activity. What you read, save, complete and set reminders for. This powers your personal “Your Activity” history, your practice streak, and the personalized recommendations on your home screen.
Search queries. Your searches are kept with your account so the app can show your recent searches. Separately, search terms are added to an anonymous, aggregate counter (no account identifier of any kind is stored with it) that powers the “Trending in Vandan” feature.
Device & location. A notification token so we can deliver the reminders you opt into, and — only if you grant permission — your device location, used to suggest your nearest city and temples. You can always pick your city manually instead.
Solely to operate and improve Vandan: personalizing panchang to your city, syncing your library and activity across your devices, delivering notifications you enabled, and ranking content you're most likely to want. Personalized ranking is computed on your device from your own activity. We do not sell your personal data.
The free tier of Vandan shows banner advertisements served by Google AdMob. Ad requests are made with non-personalized settings by default; AdMob may collect device identifiers, coarse location derived from IP, and diagnostics to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's advertising policies. Ads never appear on sacred surfaces (japa, aarti and paath reading, or the panchang). A paid subscription removes ads entirely. We do not share your profile, practice history, or any account data with advertisers.
Some search queries may be processed by cloud AI services (Google Cloud Vertex AI) to improve result relevance. These requests contain the search text and excerpts of public scripture only — never your name, email, account identifier, location, or any profile information. Under our agreement with Google Cloud, this data is not used to train AI models and is not retained beyond processing.
Vandan runs on Google Cloud and Firebase, hosted in the asia-south1 (Mumbai) region. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Google Cloud acts as our data processor under the Google Cloud Data Processing Addendum.
Your account, profile, library and activity are retained until you delete your account. Search analytics used for service improvement are keyed to a hashed identifier and automatically deleted after 90 days. Anonymous aggregate statistics (such as trending counts) contain no personal data and may be retained indefinitely.
You can edit your profile, home city and preferences in the app at any time, and disable notifications or location access from your device settings — core features keep working with a manually chosen city.
To delete your account and all associated data, use You → Account → Delete account in the app, or follow myvandan.ai/delete-account if you no longer have the app. Deletion uses a 30-day grace period: your account is scheduled for deletion and you can cancel by signing back in within 30 days; after that, your account, profile, practice history and activity records are permanently erased.
Vandan is a general-audience app intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
If our data practices change materially, we'll update this page, revise the date above, and — for significant changes — notify you in the app.
